Lindas Leben ist reich an Showbiz-Erfahrung und allemal eine Autobiografie wert. Sie schreibt gut, blumig, emotional und das Buch liest sich deshalb schnell, man bekommt den Eindruck einer fröhlichen, herzlichen Frau, die Wert darauf legt, gemocht und verstanden zu werden. Linda wiederholt sich oft und erklärt gefühlt ein Hundert mal, wie sehr sie ihre Kinder und generell ihre Familie liebt. Das ist trivial, ebenso wie ihre Songtexte, auf die sie sehr stolz zu sein scheint, obwohl sie recht pubertär wirken. Sehr unangenehm ist das penetrante „Names-Droping“ – Linda kennt seeehr viele Prominente und dankt denen seitenweise (!) hinten im Buch.Etwa die Hälfte des Buches handelt von ihrer Beziehung zu Elvis. Sie trafen einander im Juli 1972 und Elvis war wohl bis Ende 1973 in sie verliebt. Dann ereilte sie das Schicksal aller Elvis-Frauen, er wurde ihrer überdrüssig, und schob sie sukzessive ab. Offiziell kam es Ende 1976 zur endgültigen Trennung. Lindas Beginn markiert Elvis Anfang vom Ende. Insofern korrespondiert ihre leicht esoterische Ader doch gut mit seiner Geisteswandlung. Es ist tatsächlich ein starker Kontrast zu Priscillas knappem, sachlichen Sprachstil ausmachen. In der Elvis-Literatur herrscht Einigkeit darüber, dass Linda sich für Elvis und seine Kapriolen aufopferte. Sie wachte über ihn und rettete ihn, er nannte sie Mommy, sie ihn ihr Baby, doch Linda war zu schwach und zu gutmütig, um zu seinem Kern vorzudringen. Selbstverständlich hatte er nebenbei, spätestens seit Ende 1973, viele andere Freundinnen und es scheint, als hätte Sheila Ryan einen höheren Stellenwert für ihn gehabt, als die herzensgute, aufgedrehte Linda.Elvis spiele in Lindas Leben zweifelsohne eine zentrale Rolle. Sie denkt, dass es auch andersrum so war, doch darin kann man sehr zweifeln. Ja, sie lebten eine Zeit lang zusammen, er war eifersüchtig, aber sie war nur seine Freundin, Priscilla nennt sie „Begleiterin“, ein großer Unterschied zu einer Ehefrau, zumindest für den wertekonservativen Elvis. Er wollte sie nicht heiraten und es ist geradezu traurig, dass er ihr mal einen „Vor“verlobungsring schenkte. Diese Begebenheit illustriert den Charakter dieser Beziehung.Insgesamt kurzweilig, für Elvis-Fans sicherlich eine unterhaltsame, aber nicht sonderlich erhellende Lektüre. Die Geschichten über Bruce Jenner und David Foster sind ganz nett, aber absolut nix im Vergleich zu den vier Jahren an der Seite eines Elvis.
Für den Elvis Fan auf jeden Fall zu empfehlen. Linda beschreibt besondere Ereignisse sowie den Alltag mit dem King. Mit guten Englishkenntnissen leicht zu lesen auf dem EBook, da hier auch Wörter erklärt werden die nicht so geläufig sind. In Zusammenhang versteht man das sowieso meistens ganz easy.
